GENERAL INFORMATION

Following the success of Singapore Economic Review Conference 2005 (close to 300 economists from 33 countries attended), we are pleased to organize the second conference from August 2-4, 2007 in Singapore.

The Singapore Economic Review (SER) has been a leading journal in economics in Asia since it was founded in 1956. The SER is a general economics journal devoted to publishing papers of high academic standard. The SER covers a wide range of economic issues, especially those impinging on Southeast Asia and the broader Asia-Pacific region.

The Brooks World Poverty Institute (BWPI) based at the University of Manchester, UK is chaired by Nobel Laureate, Professor Joseph Stiglitz. BWPI is a multidisciplinary centre of excellence researching poverty, poverty reduction and inequality in both the developing and the developed worlds. BWPI aims to provide a better understanding of why people are poor, what keeps them trapped in poverty and what can be done to help them - drawing upon the very best international practice in research and policy making.

The themes of the SER 2007 Conference are "The Future of Asian Financial Systems: Integration, Growth, and Stability" and 'Poverty and Growth Dynamics: Asian and International Perspectives'. However, the SER also invites theoretical and empirical papers on all aspects of economics. We especially welcome papers with a focus on economic problems and issues related to Asian countries and papers in the following areas:

  • International Economics and International Finance
  • Macroeconomics
  • Banking and Financial Markets
  • Econometric Models and Applications
  • Public Economics
  • Population, Demography and Fertility
  • Energy, Environment and Resources
  • Transport Economics
  • Behavioral and Experimental Economics
  • China, India and other Emerging Economies
  • Singapore and other ASEAN Economies
